Boehner seeking repeal on health care reform 'monstrosity'

People don’t tend to throw around the word "monstrosity" lightly, so I took soon-to-be House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) seriously when he said today that the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act — which, for better or worse, is President Obama’s signature legislative achievement — was a monstrosity that he and his newly empowered Republican colleagues would seek to repeal.

In some of his first post-election comments since the landslide gains that gave Republicans the House’s biggest party turnover in more than seven decades, Boehner said, "I think it's important for us to lay the groundwork before we begin to repeal this monstrosity and replace it with commonsense reforms that will bring down the cost of health care in America."

Well, if that’s not throwing down the gauntlet, I don’t know what is.

What do you think? Repealing the law altogether goes a lot farther than refusing to fund it or blocking regulations. Is there a chance PPACA gets repealed? Sound off in the comments.

Dear Ellen2:Social Security and Medicare were opposed and well should have been. Please do not assume that because you and millions of others uncritically now accept them as "facts of life" - those who still believe in the constitution do not. Please also stop to realize that all SSI is doing is taking your money on the "promise" that a government bureacracy is going to 'safeguard' it for you and give it back at a certain time in the future. Nevermind (if you can) the fact that in the meantime they will mismanage it and circumstances well beyond their control will effect its value and security. Also do not blame more current policy messes on past ones. I for one am not into throwing good money after bad!

Not for anything but where were his common sense reform ideas when this debacle when it was on the table prior to voting??? Even if they did repeal it ( which they wont) the damage is done. Plans have been changed, participation requirements have been changed, agents commissions are being cut. Insurance carriers are going to turn around and reinstate things back. The republicans are too late.

Thank you Truth Teller for some common sense realism. I really dislike when politicians blame the other party or block changes, but yet do not come up with an alternative solution. Mr. Boehner's comments only serve to fan the flames of discourse and does nothing to promote everyone working together to come up with solutions to the health care cost crisis. While I might not necessarily agree with every aspect of PPACA, I do not believe that it should, or will be repealed. People have short memories when it comes to history and they forget that Social Security and Medicare were also strongly opposed.

"Modifications" to intrusive, bloated and unconstituional legislation is not an option. Repeal is the best and only one for Americans who believe in the Constituion and its principles of liberty and limited self government. Do not require me to pay for abortions, do not require me, under sanction, to engage in commerce, do not require me to pay for school based "health" clinics which will refer children for abortions without parental notification. Thousands of pages of legislation and regulation is not "health care reform". It is rank socialism!

Mr. Boehner again fails to mention any specifics as to how they will lower costs. He and the Republicans had eight years to control costs and failed miserably. They can't repeal PPACA as the president would veto it and they don't have the overide votes. They may be able to stall some of the funding, but again they don't have a large enough majority. The President sounds like he is willing to work with them on modifications to the law. Maybe they ought to try working together for a change to help people instead of just playing politics.
