Achieving better overall health is the top reason American workers (43%) report they participate (or would participate) in a wellness program, according to the latest Principal Financial Well-Being Index.

Other reasons include reduced personal health care costs (33%) and a greater chance of living longer and healthier lives (31%).

The index, which surveys American workers at growing businesses with 10-1,000 workers, was conducted in October 2010 by Harris Interactive.

The survey also found that more than half (53%) of workers use weight management programs offered by their employers, a 25-percentage-point increase over the previous year.

This trend is echoed by a 21-percentage-point increase in workers’ use of personalized action plans for high risk conditions to 68%, and an 18-percentage-point increase in workers’ use of blood sugar screenings to 84%.

Nearly half (48%) of workers surveyed said that wellness benefits encourage them to stay in their current employment situation, and 43% said that wellness benefits motivate them to work harder and perform better.

More than a quarter (28%) of workers surveyed believe they have missed fewer days of work as a direct result of participating in a wellness program, and 38% of workers attributed wellness programs to improved energy and productivity at work.

It's interesting that all we do acts like a boomerang. As I see from this situation, let's say a woman gets involved in wellness programs and she works more than before. With the money earned she goes and gets a health control, probably a Seattle breast augmentation, and thus gets to a higher place in the company.

Justice issues may rise, as pharma field is generally dealing with the delicateness of the health area problems. We must always take into consideration the background of a medical center before choosing it for a certain type of medical assistance. I can see private drug rehab services have strongly grown in visibility. In terms of wellness and treatments, every single piece of information about them displayed quality and inspired trustworthiness. Which is why, in analogy to the article above, it is very important to prove you have built a brand, a name in the field, for others to support you and appreciate you.

I think wellness programs are so important for any workplace that you are involved in. When a program like this is implemented, employees' morale is generally much higher, people are much healthier, and the environment is more productive. It benefits not only the employee, but the company as well. Health insurance and temporary health insurance can be much more effective also. These statistics for these surveys don't surprise me. Wellness programs are a great idea.
